Nine members from Kinross Volleyball Club returned home on Tuesday afternoon following their annual trip to De Haan on the Belgian coast to join up with three members of the Overpelt Volleyball Club to play in the annual volleyball tournament. Kinross Volleyball Club and Overpelt Volleyball Club have been meeting in Belgium during August and in Perth during May since 2005, entering joint teams in each country’s tournaments.
Having left Kinross on the Thursday morning, driving to Hull for the overnight ferry crossing to Zeebrugge the group arrived at De Haan on the Friday morning to set up their tents in the camping village before the tournament commenced on the Saturday morning. This year the joint clubs entered one team in the men’s regional division and one team in the mixed recreational division. Both teams played four games on a hot windy Saturday with mixed results the men’s team winning two, drawing one and losing one with the mixed team winning two and losing two. Sunday saw both teams in action again with the men’s team winning one, drawing two and losing one and the mixed team winning three and losing two.
Both teams enjoyed the traditional open air barbecue on the Saturday evening followed by the late night disco.
Although no winning trophies were brought back this year the teams benefited from their pre-season workout with renewed friendships cemented once again until they meet again at Perth’s Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament at the end of May 2019.
