Sunday evening’s Perth & District Volleyball League served up some performances worth remembering with the final game of the evening providing most of the drama.
Bruce Benning’s Aberfeldy started off the evening’s play with a two sets to love win (25-9, 27-25) over the young Perth High School team. Nikki McWilliam’s Tay Pearls were next to face the High School youngsters and their experience paid off, also recording a two sets to love victory (25-14; 25-10). Pearls then met Carol Hardie’s Dunfermline Phoenix and the Fifers proved too strong sweeping Pearls aside 25-10; 25-15. Pearls got back on the winning trail again when they recorded victory against David Kukla’s Motley Crew 25-20; 25-21.
Strathallan started their league season with an opening fixture and a totally new squad against Aberfeldy with the Breadalbane side coming out on top 25-14; 25-16. PLUS Perth and Motley Crew also recorded two sets to love wins against the Strathallan side who played with plenty of enthusiasm and they are sure to improve as the season progresses.
Kinross BB also suffered two losses at the hands of Hitting Bricks and Dunfermline before the final game of the evening thriller between the two unbeaten sides Hitting bricks and PLUS Perth. It was Innes Penman’s Hitting Bricks who took the early initiative and were soon 11-4 ahead. Brian Hutton’s PLUS Perth just couldn’t find consistency and lost the first set 13-25. The second set was much more evenly contested with the score progressing to 10 points each. Bricks then pulled ahead and stayed ahead, winning 25-20, tucking themselves into second place behind Tay Pearls but with two games in hand.
There is no volleyball this Sunday at Bell’s due to a special event but the Recreational League is back in action on November 25th.
